Libere 2012: Port-au-Prince Sponsored by Open Door Baptist Church!

I’m thrilled to share with those of you following Libere 2012 that the orphans in Port-au-Prince have been sponsored by Open Door Baptist Church!  They are our third stateside church to sponsor a church in Haiti with a commitment of $5,000 for the year 2012, meeting the physical, spiritual, and education needs of 80+ orphans in Haiti’s capital city of Port-au-Prince.

Before the earthquake, the church in Port-au-Prince was the headquarters of our network of Haitian churches.  They enjoyed having a large, three-story building for worship, educating orphans in their school, and housing them as well.  When the earthquake struck, the building was completely destroyed.  Even more tragic, nine orphans died in the earthquake, whose bodies were not able to be recovered due to the massive rubble.

In all, the church in Port-au-Prince suffered the loss of 34 members, and since that time, they have not been able to gather corporately due to logistical and financial constraints.  They have leased a temporary space where the orphans are being cared for, but it is woefully inadequate.  Having a church stateside to come along these fellow believers who have suffered so much and commit to pray, support, and partner with them in the work of spreading the gospel in word and deed will be immensely encouraging!

In about a month, I will be taking a team to provide theological training for 60+ pastors and ministry leaders across our network of churches in Haiti.  One of the team members going on this trip, Lord willing, will be one of the pastors of Open Door Baptist Church.  I cannot wait to share with him firsthand the work that is taking place and how ODBC can be used of God to strengthen, encourage, and bless the work of the church in Port-au-Prince.  May God be pleased to add more and more stateside churches like ODBC to embrace the opportunity and join Libere 2012!

Help us reach our goal of providing food, water, and education for all 1,572 orphans in our 13 churches by donating today. Thank you!

Timmy, I am thrilled and thankful to God with you that Open Door BC is stepping up to sponsor the orphans in Haiti. I went to high school (many years ago) in Alabama with Pastor Keith Pugh. What a godly and gifted pastor. You could not have a better partner. God bless.
